Andrew Goldstein Headshot

Hello,

I’m a Catholic musician, parish consultant, author, and composer based in South Bend, IN. My passion is to mine the depths of the Church’s treasury of music and writings to restore truth, beauty, and goodness to the devotional and liturgical life of the Catholic Church.

A holistic vision of the restoration of Catholic Music…

Andrew teaches about Catholic Music in Italy

Much ink has been spilled around the restoration of sacred music in the Catholic Church. In my own experience working with parishes and dioceses, I see that resistance to sacred music in the Mass has far more to do with nostalgia and subjective preference than anything else. Thus, hymnals and resources in the pew, while important, cannot offer us a holistic solution to advancing sacred music because the issues are intricately linked to the heart and mind of the everyday Catholic.

The solution to these issues stems beyond the parish, into the everyday life of the Catholic in the home, primarily, and secondarily, by extension, in the classroom.

In my writings, books, and consulting work within the Catholic Church, I bring a holistic view of the complexities surrounding Catholic music, and help communities “unstick” and restore excellence and beauty once again to the liturgical and devotional areas of our faith.

He spent ten years as a church music director, and as part of The Vigil Project has traveled around the world helping musicians and pastors revive sacred music, pave a highway for devotional music outside of the liturgy, and discover the riches of the Liturgy of the Hours. He is the co-founder of Seattle’s critically acclaimed experiential music series: Emerald City Music. His writings have been published in Word on Fire’s Evangelization and Culture Journal, as well as a two-volume book of music for the domestic church entitled Musica Domestica, co-authored by David Clayton and to be published by Word on Fire in Fall 2026.

Sacred Music

Andrew is a member of the Saint Hildegard Project in South Bend, Indiana, promoting the use of chant and polyphony in the Mass throughout the region. He also co-directs the high school schola at Saint Thomas More Academy, a Catholic-classical school with daily Masses for students and an integrated curriculum based upon the unfolding of salvation history.

Devotional Music

In 2021, Andrew set out to write a series of devotional songs reviving texts of poets, saints, and popes. This project, entitled Wisdom to Wonder, was played, recorded, and filmed by an all-volunteer ensemble of parish musicians at Saint Michael Parish in Olympia, WA. The songs seek to raise awareness that there are still innumerable texts that are waiting to be revived by composers and songwriters of this era, and few musicians of faith need also to be lyricists.
